Scientists are still working on ways to help people survive certain diseases. Although, there are break-throughs in their methods, scientists have not found the exact codes to cure every illness. However, if “germline editing” is permitted to cure ailments, scientists may uncover ways of genetic coding.
Citizens may want to weigh in on this topic. On one hand, researchers may be saving lives. On another hand, they may be creating genetic maps for cloning babies.
Just as the nuclear and information technologies are ever rapidly growing, so too are the biological sciences. New technologies are the world into a dimension that few have predicted. Richard Hynes, of MIT, is expecting “germline editing” to happen within 10 years. While Americans may be debating the need and the cost of healthcare, these implications bring another dimension to the topic.
